about

Two incredible improvisations by Phil Minton and Torsten Müller.

For the last forty years, Phil Minton has been working as a improvising singer in groups, orchestras, and various other situations worldwide. Some composers have written pieces that especially employ his extended vocal techniques and improvisations, which can be as unsettling as they are mesmerizing. His vocals often include the sounds of retching, burping, screaming, and gasping, as well as childlike muttering, whining, crying and humming; he also has an ability to distort his vocal cords to produce two notes at once.

Renowned German bassist Torsten Müller continues to be a valued collaborator on Vancouver’s creative music scene since making the city his home almost a decade ago. A great improviser who expands the sonic possibilities of his instrument through extended techniques, Müller has worked with a diverse cast of international improvisers including Gunter Christmann, Evan Parker, John Butcher, and Robin Holcomb.
